Which Room Should You Remodel?

As a home remodeling company, we have worked on hundreds of homes for our clients. Sometimes, we remodel almost the entire house, which allows our clients to stay in the same address but enjoy a completely new home. Other times, our clients start with one or two rooms in their home that really need an update, and then we tackle more of their home in stages.

If you’re feeling ready to have a new home but have the same address, it might be time to think about remodeling. Rest assured, you don’t have to remodel your entire home to make an impact, even though you may want to when you see the designs!

Today, we’re sharing how to select the room in your home that you want to start remodeling first. Once you have the conversations about timing, budget, and your goals, we’d love to connect with you to get started on your project!

Think Through Your Day

To begin, think through your day and the course you take throughout your home each day. This will help you understand your most trafficked areas of your home, which may surprise you.

Oftentimes, people spend the most amount of time in their bedrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, and living rooms. However, you probably also walk past your entryway or mudroom every single day at least a few times. Also, don’t forget about the dreaded laundry room. There are often rooms in your home that you spend a lot of time in but don’t necessarily love being in because they’re not functional or they’re not designed with you in mind.

Where are Your Pain Points?

Next, think through the pain points of your home. Does your kitchen get really crowded during dinner time? Are there oftentimes people sitting on the floor of your living room because there’s not enough space for everyone on the couches or chairs? Is there a lot of wasted space in your bathroom that could be better utilized?

By assessing your current pain points, make a list of the rooms in your home that could work a lot better for you and your family. Maybe ask your family members which rooms they think could use a remodel. You might be surprised to hear that certain spaces are causing a lot of issues and could be updated.

What Does Your Future Look Like?

Finally, when thinking about which rooms in your home to remodel, ask yourself what your future looks like in your home. Do you envision more children in your home? Will you maybe have an elderly parent live with you? Do you have dreams of hosting more people in your home but don’t currently have the space to do so?

Take some time to dream about what your home could be and the memories you could make in it!
