THE STORY BEHIND THE DOME HOME | ZIMMERMAN, MN

At Xtra Mile Construction, we've had the privilege of embarking on numerous remarkable remodeling journeys. However, the recent revival of a kitchen in a dome home in Zimmerman, Minnesota was truly an exceptional endeavor.

This project presented us with a set of distinctive challenges and creative opportunities, allowing us to showcase our expertise in transforming a damaged kitchen into a functional and visually striking space.

The Initial Hurdle: Fire Damage and a Tight Budget

Our journey began when homeowners reached out to us following a devastating kitchen fire. Their unique circular dome home presented a non-conventional layout, and our task was to re-imagine and rebuild this central part of their dwelling. The added complexity of working within the constraints of an insurance budget demanded ingenuity and resourcefulness.

The Unconventional Layout: Navigating Circular Terrain

One of the most intriguing aspects of this project was its unconventional layout. With the home's distinctive dome structure, we had to adapt to curved walls and an unusual floor plan. This required us to meticulously plan and craft customized solutions to maximize the available space. Our design team rose to the occasion, devising innovative ways to optimize storage and functionality.

Teal Blue Cabinets: A Daring Departure

The homeowners had a penchant for the extraordinary and sought a kitchen that mirrored their vibrant personalities. After exploring various color options, they opted for teal blue cabinets. This bold choice introduced a burst of color to the space and created a captivating contrast against the natural light streaming in through the dome's windows. The teal blue cabinets became the focal point of the kitchen, setting the tone for the entire remodeling project. Find the color information here! #756 “Varsity Blues”

Movable Island with a Convenient Twist: Functionality Redefined

To enhance functionality, we incorporated a movable kitchen island with a roll-out trash bin. This feature not only simplified waste disposal but also provided the homeowners with the flexibility to reconfigure the kitchen space according to their needs. The island's mobility added versatile functions to the kitchen, making it adaptable for various occasions and gatherings.

This kitchen perfectly blends functionality and style. Amber, our lead designer made sure this kitchen was well planned out. She shared all her secrets in this “Kitchen Space Planning Blog” you can read about!
