How to Prepare Your Home for Spring

With spring weather on the horizon in Minnesota, it’s important to ensure our homes are ready for the change in season, especially in a climate where the weather is so extreme. In today’s blog post, we’re sharing tangible ways to care for your home and prepare it for spring, both indoors and outdoors.

Clean & Declutter

In the interior of your home, spring is a perfect time to clean and declutter your space so your home can be filled with only items you truly enjoy. We recommend completing this task by going through each room of your home, including closets so you can visibly see the items you want to keep and those you want to part with, either to donate or throw away.

As you declutter your home, this can be a great time to organize your spaces, either with organizational baskets or totes. You will thank yourself the next time you need to find something in your home and know exactly where it is!Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Bring the Spring Feel Indoors

With a shift in seasons comes new smells and sights outdoors, which you can incorporate into the interior of your home through decor and intentional design. One of our favorite ways to bring the outdoors into your home is by adding floral bouquets or arrangements. This influences the feel of your home both by the sight and the lovely smell.

We also encourage you to swap out your winter decor for lighter, more colorful spring decor. This will help you feel a change in season and enjoy your home more.

Check for Winter Damage

Once you’ve spent time working on the interior of your home, it’s important to also invest time on the exterior of your home. After a long, cold, and snowy winter in Minnesota, we encourage you to check your home for any winter damage. This list can include your roof, siding, doors, windows, and any other elements that could have been impacted by the severe winter weather.

Take care of these improvements right away so your home can work efficiently throughout the summer and into the following winter.

Create an Outdoor Space You Love

With the promise of spring comes warmer weather that invites us to spend more time outdoors. In order to fully enjoy your entire home, including your front and yard, it can be really helpful to create an outdoor space you truly love. Perhaps this is a deck, new porch, or an addition for a 3-season porch.

However you choose to enhance your home for the spring months ahead, we encourage you to invest in your home to create a “New Home, Same Address.”
